Counselor, Intern
I am currently a Graduate student at Capella University, in the final stages of completing my MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Previously, I served in the U.S. Air Force for over 20 years and retired in 2015. My experience provides me with an understanding of the unique stressors and complexities associated with working in the Intelligence Community and the Department of Defense.
I come to the counseling profession open-minded and openhearted, ready to walk alongside you and support you during challenges, life transitions, and difficult times. Because a single counseling framework will not work for everyone, my approach to counseling is integrative across multiple theories. I strive to match the most effective therapeutic interventions with the unique needs of my client. I am particularly drawn to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, and narrative therapy.
I firmly believe that we are all “works in progress.” This includes myself. Having a growth mindset is extremely important to me, and I believe I can use my skills, knowledge, and experience to help you grow, reach your goals, and achieve your full potential. At the same time, I respect and honor that you are the expert of your life. My role as your counselor is not to give advice, but to empower you with options, additional tools, and encouragement. Providing a safe, accepting, and nonjudgemental environment for you to express yourself and process your experiences is my top priority. I look forward to working with you!
Michelle will be shadowing Christina on Mondays and Thursdays and will not be seeing clients independently at this time.
